This week has been a bit up and down, hit and miss and a bit of this and that... in other words a bit of a mixed bag.
Lets take Sunday as the beginning of the week which I spent helping my sister get to grips with some stressful work issues but turned into a good lunch and what I hoped was some light at the end of a tunnel for her.
Monday started well with me contemplating some gardening but gave the leaves a blast with my new garden toy which was good for me but bad for the neighbours. Monday afternoon we wandered off to the cinema to see "District 9" a rather good sci-fi movie with a twist which I can only say was worth a hefty 10/10 and well worth seeing.
Tuesday we didn't do a stroke, just relaxed and thought about Wednesday. The thinking only made me feel apprehensive about the planned "house cleaning" that Mrs H had planned for Wednesday.... I felt a lot of dusting was on my list of things to do.
Then we get to Thursday, a bad day.
I have never been afraid of the dentist. No, not scared even but there again I cannot say that it is a place where I would wish to spend much time. But sad to say I have reached that time in life where maintenance is now more likely to turn into repair and renovation. Well, that's how it turned out on my last visit and why this Thursday I was about to submit myself to the hypodermic needle and various other dental tools wielded by my dentist Florentina, a pleasant young dentist from Romania who had to exert an awful lot of physical effort to relieve me of the remains of my broken crown and the last remnants of my jaw. "Just raise your left hand if you want me to stop" she said. My left had was raised the instant she raised her right hand that was brandishing the 12" long hypodermic syringe that would numb the best part of all my face for the rest of the day. I entered her surgery at 12:10 and was free of my tooth by 12:30 at which point she told me I was unable to eat or drink for 2 hours so any dreams I had of getting an Americano from Costas in Southsea were shattered. As it was I had to fill myself up with double doses of pain killers as the numbness in my face wore off and the pain in my eye, jaw, cheek and lower teeth took over with a vengeance!
Well, come some "soft yet nutritious" meals later I found the pain had gone but I now have to enter a 12 hour fast in preparation for tomorrows Blood Test!!! Followed by a tour of Waitrose and some time trying to work out just what animals are digging up the garden to eat my newly planted bulbs, kill the occasional mouse, slow worm and Blackbird. My latest idea, the purchase of an "infra-red Web-cam" proved worthless when the camera failed to have sufficient Oomph to work in the dark!!! Ah well, it did only cost £8.50 and came from Hong Kong .... plan B to follow.... Not sure what Plan B is though yet. So, Saturday to come and some friends for lunch which will see me sweating it our as Sous Chef in the kitchen that is rather like working for a mixture of Delia Smith and Gordon Ramsey....
Given that I wont be able to grin to widely with my new Treasure Island look, one of the pirates that is ... a gappy grin until the wonderful Florentina gets back into my mouth with her instruments of torture.
I look forward to October... or do I?
