The USA – V – Europe (and its not football)

Just as I was finding it hard to both avoid a rant this month or comment of the likely extradition of Gary McKinnon to the US “on charges of perpetrating what one US prosecutor claims is the "biggest military computer hack of all time." to which all I can say was brilliantly done. OK it's Illegal for to him to have done it but there is some medical justification which is too complex and well enough debated in the press at great length so I wont repeat any of it here.

At the same time as this saga trundles on there is a trial in Italy of an American student, one “Foxy” Knox for murdering a British student for which she has been tried, found guilty and convicted. Great, Italian Police and Legal system has worked, job done!

So, in the McKinnon case the US Justice Department and talking about getting this unlikely spy and banging him up for 60 years ( a death sentence to most 40 year olds I would think) and throwing away the key. In Britain we protest from the very further reaches of the country even from the corridors of power there are cries of NO! Yet the Home Secretary sits on his hands in craven worship of the Super Power... idiot.

Meanwhile in the USA the papers are yammering about the poor Italian legal system and the failure of the case to be investigated properly and, wait for it, the trial being “Anti-American”.... heaven forbid!

Clearly Britain is not capable of trying Gary McKinnon in a British Court as no doubt our ancient legal system is nowhere as sophisticated and foolproof as the American one and the rest or Europe are just a bunch of.... I dare not thing what they think of the rest of Europe given their low opinion of both Britain and Italy.

Frankly I am fed up with what was described so eloquently in a British daily paper today as “the Americans have a chauvinistic world view which holds that no country on earth can dispense justice as fairly as the good old US of A”. Admittedly this may be a rather over heated description but the weight of law has usually been against Britain when seeking the extradition from the USA of IRA murderers and gaining information of “blue on blue” incidents that saw British soldiers killed by “gung-ho American pilots” in Iraq. After all, we are not worth the effort are we?

I will get back to my “Meal Deal” Blog as soon as I have calmed down...... Nurse!
