What an experience we had yesterday! Something neither of us had done since we were children and something we will surely do again. We sat in the dark, heads back in a semi reclined position with hypnotic music lulling us into a sort of minor trance, well not quite.
We paid a visit to the Southdowns Planetarium in Chichester. What an experience that turned out to be given that neither of us had been to a planetarium since our teens, or earlier.
Those reclining seats turned out to have come from a Boeing 747 at some stage and were so comfortable they could only have come from Club Class because I never remember seats with such soft padding on any 747 flight I have been on!
To our surprise the planetarium was packed and they music, although very 1970’s sounding, was almost as hypnotic as I implied earlier. It was if anything a bit like the soundtrack from a rather low budget Sci-Fi movie.
Anyway, we are now hooked and I am busy searching for maps of the night sky so that we can find Venue, Mars, Saturn and the International Space Station without an endless debate about both being “sure it is” when we are not. Did you know that the International Space Station is as big as a Premier League football stadium? No, neither did we!
Right, we are off to the shops now for a 100 inch reflector, some thermal underwear and some of the biggest maps of the sky we can find. Actually, were not but we will be spending a little more time studying the night sky to spot with some degree of accuracy now just which shining stars are stars and which are planets.
So it’s goodbye for now from the 3rd Rock from the Sun and hello Space!
PS: After watching the presentation yesterday I am now convinced there is NO life out there!

Dear TIT,
Star gazing now are we, and why not indeed. I agree a most illuminating experience, Mrs F and I have, certainly a long time ago, visited the Planetarium in London and also whilst in Hong Kong, also a long time ago, we visit the planetarium there.
Your post script informs us that you are now convinced that there is no life out there. Stephan Hawking the well known theoretical physicist and author of many books; including that highly readable tome A Brief History of Time; however seems to refute your claims.
As much as we are friends dear TIT when it comes down to it on this subject my money is on the chap in the wheelchair.
Your friend MAD
