What the…………..?

Have you ever laughed at the old lady or old man who you hear about who have put their shoes in the fridge and their butter in the wardrobe, or worse? Yes, I bet you have! Well I know that I have at some stage had a laugh at the prospect of that happening.

Well today a very odd thing happened in this household. We had friends round and after the usual coffee, tea, cakes and lots of talking the thought of alcohol crossed my mind. “Who’d like a drink then”? I asked.  “I will” said one lady, “a small sherry if you have one”. So off I went to get myself a rum and a cigar.  Got the glasses out of the cupboard, poured the sherry from the bottle chilling in the fridge and the rum from the bottle in its usual place, lit the cigar and forgot all about the event. A couple of hours later I was asked why I had put the sherry bottle in the kitchen cupboard with the glasses!!  What next, butter in the washing machine and laundry in the fridge?

All this does make me recall that old saying from Ozzy Osborne; “of all the things I miss, it’s my mind the most”.  I have not only started making regular calendar entries to remind myself of the most trivial of events but now I even leave notes around the house to remind myself to enter the events in the calendar!

Try having a look at this link about absent mindedness, I found it both amusing and informative if not a bit alarming. Just click the photograph below here and take a look.

Should I worry I asked myself? When is forgetting things just me getting old? When will it be me who, like my grandmother once said of me; “who is that man in the red shirt”? (Given it was her birthday party and I had just given her a gift) will I be saying the same of my daughter perhaps… I hope not!  I may just book myself in for one of those tests that the local GP surgery have to test your basic brain function to see if there are any signs of early onset dementia.  Hmmm, perhaps not, I may just let it slip my memory?

Well, I can't remember if I did or not now (just to be consistent)... However, I think I may have explained my reasons for starting again?
