Every 2nd Friday is Market Day in Chichester and among the many stalls erected in the City centre there is one that stands out, Interestingly called “Ishmaels Mother”. We first encountered the effervescent, exuberant and very personable Khalid Ishmael while casually peering at his wares on one of our visits to the Farmers Market. Then, while dropping small tasters of his addictive curry sauces into the small spoon he had provided each of us at the same time he had launched into his inimitable and entertaining “sales patter”. Despite his outrageous flirting with Valerie he still managed to flog me three packets of sauce which we thoroughly enjoyed and have been going back for replacements ever since. However, he did note that this week we had been absent for a month! We have only had one sauce we didn’t really take too and it was one that he had suggested “was good with bananas” – Not for me is wasn’t, but there again I had it with prawns!
I am pleased to say that I will be adding Ishmael’s Mother to my Blog now and confess that I should have done this some time ago. Well, now I have revamped my Blog and tidied up the links etc. and place Khalid's URL right where it should be, under “Food & Drink”.
I wonder if Khalid can bottle his exuberance at all and sell that as a curry sauce?
So, armed with our new supply of sauces we headed off to the Hornet to our favourite Deli at Hornet Provisions and the “Cafe Upstairs” [See the link under “Food & Drink”], where we can always rely on an excellent meal from the ever present John Clint and his trusty assistant Anita. After a nice glass of wine a very satisfying meal and strawberry cake (Shared!!) it was off back home to contemplate a forthcoming curry in the not too distant future plus of course an evening of Italian fayre at the “Cafe Upstairs” as soon as we get the call…..
